May Day

When I was little, I remember almost every May 1st getting to make a May basket at school. I loved making them and I also loved picking flowers ( and weeds ) for some of our neighbors. One neighbor in particular, I always loved to give a May basket to. Her name was Phyllis Savel and I knew her as "Sister Savel" She was one of my little friends' grandmas and she lived on my street. I loved to visit her and she always gave me snacks and candy. So every May Day, I'd hang a basket just like this one on her door and run away. I was telling Elle and Reese about May baskets and they decided they'd like to make one for an elderly woman in our Ward. Her name is Verna. She's my friend Camilla's Grandma. She lives in her granddaughter's home being well cared for and the kids decided they wanted her to know they were thinking of her. So we got to work then set out on our scooters into the sunshine.
It's so nice to have the weather begin to turn warmer and it's even nicer to think of someone other than ourselves. The kids happily delivered the basket and even though it had their names on it, they still wanted to make a run for it. So they did, and boy were they fast. I loved watching them enjoy serving others.
